




The service of 270 Ghana Formed Police Unit members, including 63 women, was recognized with the United Nations Medal of Honor for their work with the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). Their duties included protecting civilians, delivering humanitarian aid, promoting human rights, and supporting peacebuilding efforts in Bentiu, a region plagued by flooding, conflict, and displacement.
The officers also focused on strengthening the South Sudan National Police Service by enhancing skills in community policing, human rights protection, crime investigation, case preparation, and offender management. UNMISS emphasized the importance of building robust local institutions to ensure rule of law and security ahead of South Sudan’s anticipated 2026 elections.
Their contributions leave a lasting impact on Unity State communities, reflecting dedication to peace and stability as the officers prepare to return home.
