The southern slope of Nevado Huascarán, Peru’s highest peak is currently at imminent risk of experiencing a new avalanche. Climate change has significantly impacted the mountain's environment, with clear evidence of glacier retreat. This ongoing retreat has resulted in the destabilization of several sectors due to the formation of deep cracks and fractures.

These geological changes pose a serious threat to nearby populations, particularly those residing in close proximity to the mountain. Among the most vulnerable areas is the district of Mancos. Authorities make an urgent call to the population to stay informed and actively participate in prevention actions.
