Trial removes shark nets at popular beaches

Swimmers in New South Wales are being warned that shark nets could be permanently removed from some of the state's most popular beaches. Waverley, the Northern Beaches, and the Central Coast councils are being asked to nominate one beach each where they want to remove shark nets as part of a state government trial.

The government is prioritizing public safety and has invested in an app that notifies beachgoers when sharks are nearby. Listening stations, drone surveillance, smart drum lines, education, these are all great ways to reduce the risk. A final decision of removing shark nets will be made before December.
