Inspection of renovation works: SAC Vice Chairman inspected renovation works

The Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win, accompanied by Union Ministers, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman, and council members, inspected the progress of repair and reconstruction work on the Ottarathiri Reservoir and the office perimeter roads and retaining walls at the Ministry of Labour, all of which were damaged by the Mandalay earthquake.

First, the SAC Vice Chairman and Deputy Prime Minister, and officials, arrived at the Ottarathiri Reservoir, located on Kyauk Oa Creek in Ottarathiri Township.

Union Minister U Min Naung and officials provided explanations on the earthquake-damaged water intake routes within the dam, the geological surveys and soil testing conducted for dam restoration, the repairs to water leakage from the dam's outlet pipes, and the damage to the earth embankment.

The Deputy Prime Minister inquired about various details and provided necessary instructions. Next, the SAC Vice Chairman along with the members of entourage, toured the reservoir to inspect the ongoing removal of the earthquake-damaged central structure within the reservoir and the conversion of the auxiliary emergency spillway into a diversion channel by installing a water gate.

Following this, the SAC Vice Chairman, arrived at the Ministry of Labour. Union Ministers U Chit Swe and U Myo Thant explained the reconstruction efforts for the earthquake-damaged office building and perimeter roads including paving a 12-foot-wide asphalt road where the concrete road had subsided, cracked, and been damaged, constructing new reinforced concrete and rock-filled retaining walls, and building new drainage channels.

The SAC Vice Chairman asked questions and coordinated as needed. After that, the SAC Vice Chairman, and the members of engourage, inspected the drilling of bored piles for the construction of RC retaining walls. They also observed the temporary office spaces set up within the office compound using prefabricated offices (40 ft x 40 ft and 40 ft x 60 ft) for ongoing office operations. The SAC Vice Chairman, then gave further instructions as required.
