French league unveils own channel to broadcast Ligue 1 football matches

After years of TV rights crises, French football launched Ligue 1+, its own platform from which it hopes to ultimately generate strong revenues, even though the beginnings will be marked by austerity. The new channel will show eight of nine matches each weekend, with Qatar's beIN Sports keeping the rights to broadcast the remaining game. That arrangement promised Ligue 1 clubs just 400 million euros a year.
