







Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, U Min Naung, met with saltwater prawn farming business owners on the morning of July 8 at the meeting hall of the Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management in Mayangone Township, Yangon. During the meeting, the Union Minister stated that the ministry has already provided assistance and support in line with procedures to ensure that prawn processing and seasoning factories can commence operations by December this year.
He urged that operations begin successfully and continue in line with annual plans and targets, emphasizing that all business owners must effectively and practically implement the activities to achieve success as planned. Following this, the prawn farmers presented the current status of shrimp farming and production, as well as the potential for expansion.
The Union Minister discussed the presentations and provided necessary guidance. After that, the Union Minister visited the Livestock Breeding Development Division (Paung Ngu-ပေါင်းငူ), under the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department in Pale New Town, Mingaladon Township.
There, he inspected the operations of the semen analysis laboratory, the frozen semen production lab, cattle breeding, and various fodder plantations. Officials explained the processes of semen quality testing based on breed categories, and the production stages of frozen semen depending on breeder requests, including for beef and dairy cattle.
In response, the Union Minister advised to operate in line with established laboratory standards, collect and preserve frozen semen from local and high-quality cattle breeds, properly record research documentation, and share research findings with younger generations and scholars for future use.
According to information received, in the 2025–2026 fiscal year, the Livestock Breeding Development Division (Paung Ngu) plans to test the semen of 300 breeding cattle at its laboratory, and the frozen semen production lab targets producing and distributing 152,000 frozen semen straws.
