








Myanmar Women’s Day celebration took place in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.
Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaign sent a video message to the event, praising the outstanding performance of Myanmar women in various sectors. He mentioned that according to the statistics as of March 2024, more than 60% of the civil servants are women, while the participation of women is decision making level is over 53% .
For capacity development of women and girls, the Myanmar National Committee on Women is making efforts together with the work committee and regional committees. He called for participation of women in building a union based on democracy and federal system. Chairman of the Myanmar National Committee on Women Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and resettlement Dr Soe Win reported on the efforts for development of women, promoting women’s rights and prevention violence against women. This was followed by screening of a video clip on the significant milestones for development of women.
The ceremony also includes presenting awards to the outstanding women in various sectors during 2024. Honorary Patron of Myanamr Women’s Affairs Federation Daw Kyu Kyu Hla and officials presented prizes to the ourstanding individuals in military, police force, red cross society, sports, literature and business fields. In Myanmar, efforts are being made for development of women and gender equality in line with the international conventions.
Myanmar adopted the Bejing Declaration in 1995, Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women in 1979 and UN Sustainable Development Goals in 2015 and is actively implementing it by laying the strategic frameworks and action plans. Likewise, cooperation has been made with Mekong region countries in promoting women’s right through Gender Strategy Implementation Plan.
