6.4-magnitude earthquake strikes northern Chile, causes power outages

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 struck northern Chile on Friday, causing power outages in several areas but no immediate reports of casualties, local authorities said. According to the National Seismological Center of the University of Chile, the quake occurred at 1:15 p.m. local time.

The earthquake struck at a depth of 65 kilometers and was felt in nearby towns. Local media reported electricity outages in affected areas, and officials said a more detailed assessment would be released later in the day. Chile's Navy Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service ruled out any tsunami risk.
