Thousands of Muslim worshippers attend Eid prayers in Jakarta

Thousands of Muslim worshippers gathered outside Al-Azhar Mosque in Jakarta on Friday to mark the beginning of Eid al-Adha, one of Islam’s most significant holidays. The streets of Indonesia’s capital were filled with worshippers standing shoulder-to-shoulder, while the Istiqlal Grand Mosque also saw large crowds during the early morning prayers. 

Outside the capital, the Jonggol Cattle Market came alive with energy as traders and buyers engaged in the tradition of selecting sacrificial animals. While recent years have presented economic challenges, sellers expressed gratitude for the renewed activity and hopeful signs of recovery during this festive season.
