Trump had previously indicated that his presence would depend on NATO allies meeting his demands for increased defense spending. The summit is expected to focus on several key issues, including defense spending.

Trump has been a vocal advocate for NATO members to increase their defense budgets, suggesting a new target of 5% of GDP—comprising 3.5% for core defense and 1.5% for related infrastructure and cyber security. The United Kingdom is reportedly considering support for this initiative.
