





Former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was elected on Monday as president of the upcoming 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
Dennis Francis, President, 78th Session of the General Assembly said "Miss Baerbock served as the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany during one of the most turbulent periods in recent memory. Her experience at the helm of diplomacy amidst global uncertainty will serve this assembly well.”
Baerbock's election was conducted through secret balloting, with her securing 167 votes in favor out of 188 ballots cast. She will assume the new post in September 2025, succeeding current General Assembly President.
