US President Donald Trump answered questions on escalating steel tariffs with Japan, upon his arrival in Washington from Pennsylvania, where he announced plans to double steel and aluminum import tariffs to 50%.

Donald Trump, President of the United States: said "Well, you'll see, I mean, but I have to approve the final deal. And we haven't seen that final deal yet, but they've made a very big commitment, and it's a very big investment. It's the largest investment in the history of the state of Pennsylvania in any deal, not just steel.

And it's thousands of steel workers, and not only there, all throughout the country."  He stressed that despite a recently announced planned partnership between the American steelmaker and Nippon Steel, "US Steel will continue to be controlled by the USA."
