Japan showcases latest military tech at arms show

Japan recently showcased its advanced military technologies at the DSEI Japan 2025 defense expo near Tokyo, highlighting its growing defense capabilities amid regional security concerns. The exhibition featured cutting-edge systems such as an electromagnetic railgun, high-powered laser weapons, and the Hyper Velocity Gliding Projectile. 

Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force unveiled an electromagnetic railgun capable of launching 40mm steel projectiles at speeds up to Mach 7 or approximately 5,600 mph. This system utilizes electromagnetic forces instead of traditional gunpowder, offering advantages in rapid-fire capability and reduced vulnerability to interception.

The railgun was tested aboard the JS Asuka warship, marking a significant milestone in Japan's naval defense technology.
