In Bangui, Central African Republic, a group of young comedians is producing a grassroots comic series called “Problems Shack”, led by 19-year-old Romuald Luther LG. With limited resources, they film in local neighborhoods using basic equipment.
Their aim is to grow a local comedy industry in a country with internet access below 16%. The project also serves as a training ground for aspiring performers. Bangui currently has no comedy clubs or regular performance venues.
The team uses social media platforms to distribute content in French and Sangho. Comedy is viewed as a form of escape in a country affected by years of conflict. The group hopes to elevate Central African comedy to regional recognition. Their efforts mark a revival of the performing arts in a struggling cultural landscape.
