A 25-year-old man has been identified as the primary suspect in Saturday's fatal vehicle explosion outside a fertility clinic in Southern California's desert resort city of Palm Springs, authorities said on Sunday. Authorities believe the suspect, Guy Edward Bartkus of Twentynine Palms, a nearby city in San Bernardino County, died in the blast, which also injured at least four others.
"The subject had nihilistic ideations," said Davis, assistant director in charge of the Los Angeles field office of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, adding that the explosion is "a targeted attack." Davis also said the suspect was attempting to livestream the bombing.
Palm Springs Police Department Chief Andy Mills said at the press conference on Sunday that investigators are continuing to collect evidence in the area. Mills noted that "this city is safe" and "there is no continuing threat to their community as a result of this incident."
