The traditional salt-making industry in Thụy Hải commune in Thái Thụy district, Viet Nam, has been recognised as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. This announcement coincided with the annual Festival of the Lady of Salt, held in the district on Sunday, which saw a large turnout of locals and tourists.

The festival honours the Lady of Salt while promoting the area’s centuries-old salt-making tradition. Thụy Hải salt is known for its purity and unique production methods passed down through generations. The heritage designation is expected to bolster the preservation of this cultural practice and contribute to the sustainable development of tourism in the province, which aims to attract over 4.5 million visitors annually.
