Macron to Merz: 'We want to respond together to Europe's challenges'

French President Emmanuel Macron announced Wednesday the creation of a "French-German defence and security council" as Germany's new Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited Paris.

Speaking alongside newly appointed German Chancellor, Macron expressed his desire to revive the 'Franco-German reflex'—a commitment to systematically building joint actions between the two countries and responding together to "Europe's challenges".
