Man Dies After Concrete Block Falls on Truck

A man has died after a large concrete slab fell from an elevated structure onto his pickup truck on Rama II Road in Samut Sakhon province, outside Bangkok.

The victim sustained severe injuries, including internal bleeding and a ruptured liver, after two concrete pieces, crashed through his windshield. He was rushed to Hospital where he underwent surgery but later succumbed to his injuries.

The concrete is believed to have broken off from the underside of the Mahachai-Krathumbaen elevated bridge, which has been in use for 30 years, according to the director of the Samut Sakhon Highway District. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport has instructed the Director-General of the Department of Highways to oversee the maintenance of older bridges and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
