Supervision Committee meeting: SAC member DPM attended and delivered opening remarks

The first coordination meeting of the Committee for the Supervision of Reconstruction and New Construction of Buildings was held at the Ministry of Defense meeting hall in Nay Pyi Taw on April 29.

The Chairman of the Committee, member of State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister, and Union Minister for Defense, General Maung Maung Aye, attended and delivered the opening remarks.In his address, General Maung Maung Aye stated that the committee was formed to oversee the reconstruction and reuse of government-owned buildings that were damaged by the Mandalay earthquake on March 28.

The committee is responsible for ensuring that buildings that can be repaired are restored and reused, and that new constructions are built to be earthquake-resistant.He noted that to inspect damaged government office buildings, staff housing, and special-use buildings, the committee had formed inspection teams including 18 teams for Phase 1 inspections, 11 teams for Phase 2 inspections, and 12 special inspection teams.

He emphasized that new constructions must be able to withstand earthquakes of up to 8.0 on the Richter scale.Following his remarks, committee members in attendance presented detailed reports on the status of repairs and reconstruction according to their respective ministries and departments. Experts also presented suggestions and recommendations, which the committee chairman reviewed and coordinated. The meeting concluded with his closing remarks.
