Eradicating Online Fraud: Deportation of illegal immigrants in border area

Efforts are being made to expose illegal foreign nationals engaged in online gambling, online fraud and unlawful acts at the border areas. 

On 28th April, a total of 255 foreign nationals who entered Myanmar illegally via illegal routes and involved in online gambling and online fraud at Myawaddy-Min Let Pan, Mae Htaw Tha Lay and Kyauk-Khatt area were deported to their respective countries in line with the existing laws and procedures through Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge No (2) and another 3 foreigners were investigated and detained.

Kayin State Social Affairs Minister U Saw Tun Aung met with responsible officials, instructed to address for the harmonization of personal data and documents to be correct and complete which are necessary in the repatriation process of the foreign nationals.

Next, during the event of deportation, Kayin State Minister for Social Affairs and officials handed over documents of repatriation to the officials of the relevant countries. Similarly, 3 Indonesians who had illegally entered and resided in Myawaddy- Mae Htaw Tha Lay area through unauthorized routes, were identified and detained on April 28.

From 30th  January to 28th April 2025, a total of 9,043 illegal foreign nationals were detained and 7,567 of them were already deported to their respective countries via Thailand in line with the existing laws and procedures. The remaining 1,475 foreign nationals are ready to be deported to their home countries and are being well cared for in detention.

The 9,043 detained foreign nationals hail from countries including China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nepal, Thailand, Rwanda, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Ghana, Bangladesh, Japan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Tunisia, Algeria, Congo, Cameroon, Uzbekistan, Nigeria, Kyrgyzstan, Namibia, Madagascar, Romania, Liberia, Russia, the Philippines, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Burundi, and China (Taipei).

It has also been reported that more foreign nationals are continuing to enter the country illegally through unauthorized routes. Relevant interdepartmental teams will continue to carry out inspections and investigations, with the goal of promptly repatriating these individuals to their respective countries as soon as possible.
