French Minister for Gender Equality Aurore Bergé visited Guadeloupe to combat domestic violence. She also signed an agreement to ease the process for women to file complaints at the university hospital.

The island has a higher rate of domestic violence than mainland France, with 12 victims per 1,000 inhabitants. Sandra François, director of the Guadav-France Victims 971 association, highlighted an increase in severe abuse cases, with victims seeking more serious support. The new initiative aims to provide better resources for victims and strengthen legal assistance.
