The Nigerian Forest Security Service called for stronger collaboration and legal backing to combat rising forest crimes such as illegal logging and wildlife trafficking, during a strategic summit in Imo State.

With illegal logging, wildlife trafficking, and forest boundary breaches posing escalating threats to Nigeria’s ecological and economic stability, the Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS) has called for urgent coordinated action.

Under the theme “The Role of Foresters in Combating Forest Crime: Challenges and Strategic Intervention”, the summit brought together forestry officials, traditional leaders, community stakeholders, and security agencies to explore strategic responses to the growing wave of forest-related crimes.

Beyond security, the summit also highlighted the ecological and agricultural importance of forest preservation. Participants also called on traditional institutions and local communities to play more active roles in forest protection efforts.
