Bolivian artists make sand sculptures to celebrate Easter

Bolivian artists gathered on Good Friday at the Cochiraya sandbanks near Oruro, about 200 kilometers south of La Paz, to create sand sculptures depicting the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, as well as other biblical figures.n the western part of the country, the dunes transformed into an enormous canvas for nearly 200 Argentine, Peruvian and Bolivian artists who recreated biblical passages and the Way of the Cross stations. 

The Way of the Cross marks 14 events, called stations, from the time Roman governor Pontius Pilate condemns Jesus to death until his burial in a tomb. The festival, which is running its 19th edition, is an annual tradition, drawing large numbers to marvel at the sand creations.
