Trump says US trade deal with EU is '100%' possible

US President Donald Trump said he believed there is a "100 percent" chance that his country and the European Union can strike a trade deal. Trump was speaking to reporters at the start of his meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Washington on Thursday. 

The Trump administration introduced -- then paused -- 20-percent tariffs on EU exports earlier this month. Meloni also said she is sure both sides can make a deal. She said she traveled to the United States to help on that, while adding that she cannot negotiate on the EU's behalf. Meloni said she had invited Trump to pay an official visit to Italy in the near future and he accepted her invitation. 

She also said the US president would have the opportunity to meet with other European leaders as well.
