






In Dawei of Tanintharyi Region, on the first day of Myanmar traditional New Year Water Festival (Thingyan) on 14th April, refreshments, drinks, and charitable offerings were served at the Dawei Military Station compound and in front of the City Hall. The public participated in the traditional Peaceful Thingyan and Walking Thingyan.
During the New Year festival held in Dawei, local residents joyfully took part in the Walking Thingyan. Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko, Region High Court Chief Justice, region ministers, Deputy Commander of Coastal Region Command, and other officials toured the event, offered words of encouragement, and presented cash awards. The Chief Minister also shared food and drinks with attendees from across the region.
Additionally, efforts are underway to submit Myanmar’s traditional Thanakha culture to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list to promote global recognition. In front of Dawei City Hall, locals enthusiastically applied Thanakha with pride and celebration. Chief Minister U Myat Ko and officials observed and supported the event, it’s reported.
