Trump's tariff announcements 'an earthquake' says French Prime Minister

During a visit to the International Cheese and Wine Fair, French Prime Minister François Bayrou declares that the tariff announcements made by US President Donald Trump are an "earthquake." Bayrou said that “This is not just an economic shock, it’s an earthquake and these tariffs strike at the heart of agricultural identity and the spirit of fair international trade”.

The trading turmoil unleashed by US President Donald Trump's tariffs has triggered a record run for gold, widely viewed as a safe-haven investment. On Friday it struck an all-time high of 3,227.51 dollar for an ounce in trading, handing the commodity a gain of more than 20 percent since the start of the year.
