Work Coordination Meeting: Efforts for re-operation of cement factories

On 10 April, a work coordination meeting of Myanmar Cement Association  took place in Nay Pyi Taw, with the attendance of Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than.

During the meeting, the Union Minister gave the opening speech and said that before the quake disaster, 63 tons of cement were produced by 9 local factories. He also stated that 4 cements factories from Mandalay region and 1 from Nay Pyi Taw council area were damaged due to the quake hit.

He emphasized the need for the rehabilitation of factories and the initiative to hire foreign technicians, and added that the recommendations have been made for the importation of essential equipment from foreign countries. As a result of the earthquake, numerous buildings in Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region, and the Nay Pyi Taw Council area have sustained significant damage, and the Union Minister stressed the need of significant quantity of cement for reconstruction efforts.

He urged all to make efforts for speedy re-operation of the factories to meet the demand. He also stated that, the Chairman of the State Administration Council and the Prime Minister have provided guidance to provide the needs of domestic factories, including cement factories, steel/iron factories, roofing sheet factories, brick factories, and plywood factories, ensuring them to be in fully operational.

The officials later provided update reports on the operations at each factory, including the production activities, inspections and repairs of machinery, the readiness for resumption of operations.
