Customs officials from Nepal and India have begun bilateral talks in Kathmandu to simplify trade procedures and curb illegal trade and revenue leakage.

Key discussion points includes implementing an electronic cargo tracking system for third-country goods, sharing export-related information in advance, and strengthening quarantine and quality checks at border points. The talks also cover mutual recognition of electronic certificates of origin and timely completion of integrated check points in Bhairahawa and Chandani-Dodhara.

Nepal’s delegation is led by Department of Customs Director General, while India’s team is headed by Director General of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. The discussions on 10-11 April include high-level officials from relevant ministries and departments of both countries.
