Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader announced new measures to enhance border management between the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

An additional 1,500 troops will be deployed, increasing the total number of soldiers stationed at the border to 11,000. The government approved the extension of the existing border wall by 13 kilometers.

This will add to the 54 kilometers already constructed. Border operations will be reorganized into six zones, each supervised by a senior officer. The measures aim to improve coordination and monitoring at the border. President Abinader emphasized the importance of upholding national laws and systems.

He also called for increased international support in addressing Haiti’s ongoing challenges.
