Japan Prime Minister planning trade talks with Trump

Japan's Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru said he wants to discuss trade issues with US President Donald Trump as early as this week following the announcement of US tariffs on Japan and other countries. Ishiba made the remarks during the meeting with leaders of ruling and opposition parties on Friday.

Speaking to reporters in Osaka City on Saturday, Ishiba said telephone talks should be held when it is convenient for both leaders, as early as this week. Ishiba noted that he will make thorough preparations to explain how Japan will respond to issues raised by President Trump. The prime minister added to present Japan's proposals as a package, stressing that it may take some time.
