Damage and Losses: Devastating earthquake in Sagaing Region

Sagaing Region is one of the hardest-hit areas by the devastating earthquake that struck Central Myanmar on March 28th.

The widespread damage has been reported in the quake-hit areas, with collapsed debris from public infrastructures and religious sites.

As of 8:00 pm April 4th, 317 religious buildings, 2,235 houses, 498 departmental buildings, roads and bridges have been damaged due to the powerful earthquake in Sagaing Region.

Among these damages are basic education schools, and twenty-two staff members have lost their homes.

Deputy Director General, Sagaing Region Basic Education Department, Thet Lay Oo said "Two district offices, one township office, and 35 basic education schools were damaged. One district office and one township office completely collapsed. Staff from these offices are now collecting damage reports at a temporarily set-up office. Among the damaged schools, some have completely collapsed, while others cannot be renovated despite partial collapse. Seven education staff members have been reported dead, and three have been injured in Sagaing Region. "

As of Saturday, a total of 503 people have been reported death with 669 injured in Sagaing Region.
