This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Dongjiang (East River) water supply to Hong Kong, a significant milestone in cross-border water cooperation between Hong Kong and mainland China. Since the 1960s, Dongjiang water has accounted for about 70% to 80% of Hong Kong's fresh water consumption, playing a vital role in the city's development.
These activities aim to raise public awareness about the importance of Dongjiang water and express gratitude for the support from the mainland. These initiatives provide opportunities for residents and visitors to learn about the history, development, and current status of the Dongjiang water supply, fostering a deeper appreciation for this essential resource.
