Relief Efforts: SAC Chairman makes phone conversation with Malaysian PM

ASEAN Chairman, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Haji Anwar bin Ibrahim said ASEAN will provide humanitarian assistance to earthquake-hit Myanmar during a phone conversation with Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on Sunday.

During the conversation, the ASEAN Chairman expressed his condolences for the loss of lives in the devastating earthquake and said Malaysia has sent a rescue team, adding that the Malaysian Foreign Minister also made video conference with Foreign Ministers from ASEAN member states, discussing ways to provide assistance.

In his turn, the Prime Minister expressed thanks to the ASEAN Chairman and Malaysian Prime Minister. With the assistance of AHA center, the rescue team from Singapore has been serving the duties since 29th of March and continuing the rescue operation. He explained that as of Sunday, about 1,700 were reported death with 3,400 injuries and 300 missing and the death toll is expected to raise.

Then, the ASEAN Chair said they will assist humanitarian aid to Myanmar and is planning for the visit of the Foreign Minister to observe the ground condition in Myanmar. The Prime Minister said Myanmar welcomes the visit of Malaysian Foreign Minister and expressed his appreciation for the assistance of ASEAN Chairman and Malaysia.
