Dam Condition After Earthquake: MOALI announcement on dam condition after quake

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation issued an announcement concerning the condition of the dams following the earthquake on March 28th.

After the quake, officials conducted a field inspection to assess the damage to dams in the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, along with implementing safety measures.

The initial investigation was conducted at 12 dams under the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department. Although there was slight damage, it did not affect the structural integrity of the dams, and there is no indication of a potential disaster. Among the 12 diversion weirs, the Sin Thay Diversion Weir sustained damage to about 150 feet. This structure is 930 feet wide and 20 feet deep. Detailed surveys are currently underway.

Additionally, concerned officials are conducting surveys at major dams across regions and states. No damage has been found so far, and detailed investigations are continuing. The public is urged not to panic, and updates will be provided in a timely manner.
