







The 4th meeting of the Myanmar Special Economic Zone Central Working Committee for the fiscal year 2024-2025 was held at the Meeting Room-2 of the Ministry of Commerce, Nay Pyi Taw on March 25.
The meeting was attended by the Central Working Committee Chairman, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Dr. Kan Zaw, and the Vice Chairman, Union Minister for Commerce, U Tun Ohn. Initially, the Central Working Committee Chairman emphasized the importance of prioritizing investments in special economic zones.
He mentioned that companies in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone are already producing and consuming their own electricity using solar systems and must continue to improve production. He also highlighted the successful implementation of the Kyauk Phyu Special Economic Zone project and stated that close cooperation between the Kyauk Phyu SEZ Consortium Company Limited formed as Myanmar Government Designated Entity (GDE), and the Chinese CITIC Consortium is essential for the project's success.
Furthermore, he urged that efforts to continue the development of the Thilawa, Kyauk Phyu, and Dawei Special Economic Zones should be pursued with urgency. Next, the Central Working Committee Vice Chairman spoke about efforts to attract new investments into the Thilawa Special Economic Zone, increase export activities, and connect micro, small, medium enterprises within the country with those in the zones.
Following that, the Joint Secretary of Central Working Committee provided a report on the implementation status of the decisions made at the 3rd meeting of the Committee for the fiscal year 2024-2025.
The Chairmen of the management committees from the Thilawa, Kyauk Phyu, and Dawei Special Economic Zones presented reports to the meeting regarding their respective zones.
The members of Central Working Committee then discussed the progress of activities in each zone, according to the relevant sectors. After that, the Central Working Committee Chairman, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, and the members of the Committee discussed the necessary actions based on the reports presented and concluded the meeting with closing remarks.
