France's Macron 'only point of reference' for mending ties: Algeria leader

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has emphasized that French President Emmanuel Macron is the "only point of reference" for improving bilateral relations between France and Algeria. 

This statement highlights the central role Macron plays in efforts to mend ties that have been strained by historical grievances and recent political disagreements. Relations between the two nations have experienced significant challenges in recent years. 

A notable point of contention was France's recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara, a stance opposed by Algeria. This decision led to Algeria recalling its ambassador from Paris and implementing retaliatory measures, including blocking visa applications and suspending certain diplomatic exchanges.
