Flood Prevention Measures: Plans for dredging a sand bund in Ayeyawady River

Plans are underway to mitigate inundation in Myitkyina of Kachin State. As part of the project, the sand bund under the Bala Min Htin Bridge will be removed for better flow of Ayeyawady River.

On March 22nd, a clarification about the project was made to the sand and gravel dealers. Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan instructed to carry out the tasks in line with the regulations.

With the budget allotment of the Union Government, the dredging of sand bund will be carried out to the area of 6,000 ft long and 240 ft wide with 2 meter depth under the lowest level of water. The state government has invited the local entrepreneurs for the project which is scheduled to commence befor the rise of river water level.
