Sunflower Harvesting: Demonstration of sunflower harvesting in Nay Pyi Taw

Harvesting of foreign sun flowers varieties was carried out at the model farming field in Pyinmana Township, Nay Pyi Taw on 21st March. Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Tin Htut observed the sunflower plantation together with concerned officials and 50 sunflower farmers.

In his briefing, the Deputy Minister highlighted that long-term mechanized farming has led to soil compaction, stressing that planting sunflower crops, known for their robust root systems, can be highly effective in rehabilitating and improving the soil structure.

The Deputy Minister called for collaboration to meet the seed requirements for sunflower crops, aiming to enhance sunflower production. He also stated the importance of natural crossbred of sunflower, in addition to the hybrid species.

The Deputy Minister urged officials to prioritize providing technical assistance to farmers. He also discussed to encourage farmers to practically apply the practice of selecting quality seeds annually, along with the multiplication process. 

He urged all to promote research works on sunflower plantation, ensuring the proper and effective seed dissemination system. An official later provided a detailed explanation of harvesting plans, followed by demonstration at one of the sunflower fields.
