Intangible Cultural Heritage: Myanma Thanakha Culture Campaign in Taunggyi

Myanma Thanakha Culture Campaign was held in Taunggyi Township on 15th March. In his opening speech, the State Social Affairs Minister stressed the purpose of the event which is to support the submission of Myanma Thanakha to the UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Highlighting the successful inscription of Myanmar New Year Atā Thingyan Festival in the Intangible Culture Heritage List, the Minister urged the relevant individuals as well as the public to actively participate in making Myanmar traditional heritage to be recognized on this prestigious global list. 

It was followed by screening of Myanma Thanakha video clip, and staging of a performance by students from No.1 Basic Educatin High School with a song titled “Thanakha”. The medicinal effect of Myanma Thanakha was also clarified during the event. 

Then, the event continued with the song performances of the students from No.2 Basic Education High School and No.14 Basic Education Middle School and Township Women’s Affairs Federation. The participants also enjoyed the Thanakha paste applying activities.
