Crackdown on Online Frauds: 161 illegal immigrants detained on March 15th

On 15th March, a total of 158 Chinese citizens and 3 Indonesian citizens were detained for involving in the online fraud cases in Myawady, Mae Htaw Thalay, and KK Park areas after illegally entered into Myanmar via Thailand and other neighbouring countries through illegal border routes. Necessary records and documentation are being compiled to deport the detainees to their respective countries promptly.

From 30th January to 15th March 2025, a total of 6,436 illegal foreign nationals were detained, and 3,588 of them have already been deported to their respective countries via Thailand in accordance with the existing laws and procedures.

The remaining illegal foreign nationals under detention are being well cared for and are ready to be deported. The government will continue its efforts to combat various online scam activities in cooperation with international organizations and neighboring countries.
