Eradicating Online Fraud: Deportation of illegal immigrants in border area

Myanmar is making trilateral efforts to expose illegal foreign nationals engaged in online scams and online gambling in border areas.

On 14th March, a total of 375 foreign nationals involved in such activities were deported to their respective countries via the No. 2 Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge. In addition, 260 more foreigners were detained after illegally entering the Myawady, Min Let Pan, and KK Park areas. Necessary records and documentation are being compiled to deport the detainees to their respective countries promptly.

From 30th January to 14th March 2025, a total of 6,275 illegal foreign nationals were detained, and 3,588 of them have already been deported to their respective countries via Thailand in accordance with the existing laws and procedures.

The remaining illegal foreign nationals under detention are being well cared for and are ready to be deported. The government will continue its efforts to combat various online scam activities in cooperation with international organizations and neighboring countries, while effective actions have been taken against these cases by the administrative bodies of regions and states.
