






The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement hosted the International Women's Day celebration in Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday.
The event was attended by Myanmar Women's Committee Chairman Union Minister Dr. Soe Win and his wife, along with members of the Myanmar Women's Committee and the National Committee for the Prevention and Response to Sexual Violence in Conflict and other officials.
At the ceremony, Committee Chairman Dr. Soe Win highlighted the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Conference in 2025, emphasizing the need for gender equality and women's empowerment. He noted Myanmar's implementation of the National Strategic Plan for the Advancement of Women through a steering Committee and 12 working committees. With 49.73% of the global female population, he stressed the impact of armed conflicts on 612 million women and girls worldwide.
He urged increased female participation in all sectors, in align with UNCEDAW and emphasized education, violence prevention and support services, including the 24-hour helpline "1566". In line with this year’s theme "For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment", he called for women empowerment in Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, education, employment, leadership and decision-making.
The ceremony included screening of a commemorative message from the UN Secretary-General and a video showcasing the activities of women's organizations under the Myanmar Women's Committee. The attendees then toured commemorative booths which displayed the products made by the Women Vocational Training Schools and Women’s Organizations.
