






Under the theme: “For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”, a commemorative ceremony on International Women’s Day was held at the City Hall in Dawei Township, Thaninthayi Region on March 8.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister U Myat Ko said that the ceremony was held to highlight the pivotal role of Myanmar women, as the Women’s Day celebrated annually in global countries. For women empowerment, Beijing Declaration and project plans were adopted at the 4th World Conference on Women held in Beijing, China in 1995 along with the adoption and implementation of Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination Against Women and Sustainable Development Goals.
Likewise, National Strategic Plan for the Advancement of Women Phase-II was drafted and implemented. To achieve the goal of gender equality, promotion and prevention of women rights, and narrowing development gap between urban and rural area of the country, the Chief Minister called for collaboration efforts between public and government organizations.
Then, the video clip on a message delivered by Secretary-General of the United Nations and the documentary video clip on the development of women organizations across the country were screened along with the performances of dance troupes.
