Lancang-Mekong Cooperation: Two new centers opened at DRI in Yangon

Initiated by Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund 2022, the Solar Energy Exhibition & Training Center was opened in Yangon along with the Food Safety Analysis Center.

The opening ceremony of these new facilities was held at the Department of Research and Innovation under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Dr. Aung Zeya made an opening speech, highlighting the importance of the establishment of Solar Energy Exhibition and Training Center for the development of renewable energy sector as well as the completed key activities under the establishment of food safety analysis center Agricultural Food Products Development project.

Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of People’s Republic of China Dr. Zheng Zhihong also delivered remarks outlining the relations among Lancang-Mekong member countries and significant collaborative activities.

Dr. Hla Myo Aung, Director, Department of Research and Innovation, said " As we receive requisite modern equipment and facility for training center through Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund Project 2022, we can provide effective practical courses to the trainees which to turn out skilled workers for the respective workplaces."

The department has been conducting training on renewable energy since 2014, and the opening of this new center could help operate more efficiently in conducting training courses to turn out quality human resources.

Dr. Hla Myo Aung, Director. Department of Research and Innovation, said " We usually provide 4 training courses annually. The next training will be conducted at the end of March. Plans are underway to accelerate international collaborations to share knowledge and promote solar energy utilization throughout the country. "

The ceremony also included the screening of a documentary video clip featuring project implementations of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund 2022. Following the opening ceremony, the attendees have a chance to tour around the new facilities.
