Inspection Tour: Upgrading of Wazira Cinema in Yangon

Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn and officials visited Wazira Cinema in Kyauktada Township in Yangon on 1st March, and inspected the upgrading process of the building.

At present, necessary maintenance and upgrading measures are being conducted at the Wazira Cinema as it is planned to transform the Wazira Cinema as Red Carpet Cinema which can host theatrical plays, traditional events, dance and music festivals, film festivals and galleries to promote Myanmar’s traditions and customs, attracting the interests of the visitors.

Formerly known as New Excelsior, Wazira Cinema was established in 1924 and decorated with Beaux Arts architecture style and figurines. In 1942, it was retitled as A 1 Cinema and became Wazira Cinema in 1968.
