The Kumbh Mela, the world’s largest religious festival, attracted over 550 million devotees to Prayagraj, India, since mid-January. The six-week Hindu celebration, which concluded Wednesday, was considered the largest gathering in human history for a religious, cultural and social event.

Devotees from all walks of life, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bollywood stars, bathed in the sacred confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers, seeking spiritual purification. With one day remaining, attendance numbers were expected to rise further.
