Crackdown on Online Frauds: 168 foreign nationals detained on February 25

The individuals who illegally entered Myanmar through border routes via neighboring countries, including Thailand, and committed illegal activities such as online gambling, online fraud, and other crimes in the Myawaddy Township, Shwe Kokko, and KK Park areas of Kayin State, have been identifying and investigating. Today on February 25, an additional 168 foreign nationals were detained.

Efforts are underway to compile the necessary personal information and records of these detained foreign nationals to facilitate their swift repatriation to their respective countries. Relevant departmental combined teams are working diligently to complete these processes on the same day.

Furthermore, Kayin State Government’s Minister for Security and Border Affairs Colonel Min Thu Kyaw, along with other responsible officials, inspected the situation in the morning today. They reviewed the proper detention of the foreign nationals scheduled for repatriation to their respective countries and oversaw the ongoing compilation of personal data and records for the 168 newly detained individuals.

Subsequently, meetings were held with relevant departmental officials to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the data, as well as to address the health, accommodation, food, security, and transfer processes of the detained foreign nationals. Coordination was carried out to prevent delays and ensure the swift and systematic repatriation of these individuals.

From January 30, to February 25, a total of 2,538 foreign nationals who illegally entered Myanmar were identified and detained. Of these, 673 have already been systematically transferred to their respective countries via Thailand in accordance with legal procedures. The remaining 1,865 foreign nationals are ready to be repatriated to their respective countries, and it has been confirmed that they are being well cared for while in detention.
