Nat’l comm. on social protection: Committee held its 8th meeting in Nay Pyi Taw

The National Committee on Social Protection held a meeting at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the National Committee on Social Protection, Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister, and Vice-Senior General Soe Win, who delivered the opening remarks.

In his opening speech, SAC Vice-Chairman National Committee Chairman Vice-Senior General Soe Win, stated that this meeting marked the eighth session of the National Committee on Social Protection.

He emphasized that the suggestions and decisions arising from this meeting would enable the adoption of increasingly effective methods for implementing social protection initiatives. These methods would enhance and expand the ongoing social protection efforts year by year.He further noted that Myanmar, in alignment with international standards, is working to connect its social protection initiatives with global efforts.

The country aims to exchange best practices among member states through its participation in the International Social Security Association (ISSA), which was established on October 4, 1927, and includes 338 organizations from 163 countries collaborating together.

Additionally, with the aim of sharing valuable experiences and practices in social security, Myanmar joined the ASEAN Social Security Association (ASSA) by signing a Memorandum of Agreement on September 10, 2015, as a member, working alongside 20 social security organizations from 10 ASEAN countries.

Vice-Senior General Soe Win underscored that social protection initiatives are essential responsibilities of any government and represent investments that directly benefit the public. He urged attendees to openly discuss the progress of implementation in their respective sectors, future plans, and any necessary recommendations.

Following his remarks, the Vice Chairmen of the National Committee on Social Protection—Union Minister Dr. Soe Win, Union Minister U Chit Swe, and Union Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win—provided explanations and discussed the ongoing efforts in their respective sectors. 

Subsequently, the Secretary of the National Committee Deputy Minister U Soe Kyi, presented a report on the completion of actions based on the decisions from the previous meetings.

After that, committee members, including deputy ministers, discussed the social protection activities being carried out by their respective ministries, collaborative efforts, and offered suggestions.  

Finally, the Chairman of the National Committee on Social Protection, Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council, and Deputy Prime Minister coordinated and addressed the points raised during the discussions, delivering concluding remarks, it’s learnt.
