Correct Usage: Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture on Friday announced for the correct usage of the UNESCO’s World Heritage List and The Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

It stated that UNESCO is trying to safeguard the Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage of the World by inscribing the World Heritage List and The Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity every year.

In Myanmar, three Pyu ancient cities in 2014 and Bagan ancient city in 2019 were inscribed as World Heritage List. Moreover, Myanmar traditional New Year Ata Thingyan festival was inscribed as The Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2024. Practice of Thanakha Culture in Myanmar is now being strived to inscribe in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

However, it has been notice that some media are now using wrong usage as World Intangible Cultural Heritage and World Heritage for Myanmar Intangible Cultural Heritage. Therefore, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture requests Myanmar people and media to use as The Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity for Intangible Cultural Heritage in any social media.
