Japan weather officials issue heavy snow alert for Ishikawa Prefecture

Japanese weather officials issued a heavy snow alert for Ishikawa Prefecture, central Japan, on Friday morning. The Meteorological Agency said snow is mainly falling in areas along the Sea of Japan coast due to the effects of a winter pressure pattern and a powerful cold air mass. 

The agency warned that the snow is intensifying in some parts of Ishikawa Prefecture. Several cities have seen record snowfall this month, causing traffic disruption and several fatalities. 

The officials said the cold air mass may become stronger and bring more snow during the three-day holiday through Monday. They advise people to keep updated with the latest weather and traffic information.
